Message from Councillor Renwick, Chairman of Eckington Parish Council

Dear resident

I hope you all managed to have a happy and peaceful Christmas break.

The UK's four chief medical advisors have advised the Covid alert level should move to the highest level – level 5 – indicating that if action is not taken, the NHS may be overwhelmed.

While another national lockdown is not the way any of us wanted to greet 2021, we must all continue to follow the rules to protect those we love and save lives.

Once again we are being asked to stay at home

You should only leave home for limited reasons permitted in law, such as to shop for essential items/medical care

You should work from home unless you absolutely cannot

If you are clinically extremely vulnerable, you are advised to begin shielding again

If you, or anyone you know locally, you feel may be in need of assistance, food, care or emotional support - please contact North East Derbyshire District council on 01246 231111 as there are lots of agencies and support that council can signpost you to. Also visit www.ne-Derbyshire.gov.uk for further information.

There are a number of Business grants available and the Chancellor has just announced an additional £4.6bn in lock down grants - again please contact North East Derbyshire district council to find out more.

Eckington Parish Council is working with Rural Action Derbyshire, FareShare and Feeding Derbyshire and Rykneld Homes to provide food and some financial grants to those most in need. I know that these are exceptionally difficult times, especially for those who have lost jobs recently. Please contact us if you or anyone you know needs our support.

I know these are going to be a tough few weeks, but we must not lose hope. Vaccines are moving at pace. We will get through this and by continuing to work together we will beat COVID.

All good wishes for a happy, healthy 2021.

Best regards Cllr. Carolyn Renwick
