There are two organisation who have Carpet Bowl's session, both of which meet at the Bowls Club in Wyddial Road.

Buntingford Bowls Club run a session on Thursday evenings during the winter which is open to all.

U3A (The University of the Third Age) also run a session normally during the day on a Wednesday.

Sports & Recreation Facilities

Buntingford boasts a wealth of sporting and recreation opportunities.

Outdoor Pursuits

There are a number of clubs offering outdoor sporting opportunities and details of which may be found under "Community - Directory". These include:

Football

There are 3 separate football clubs based in Buntingford who cater for the full age range.

Buntingford Cougars Youth FC - up to 16 years. Runs many teams for both girls and boys and is well supported. They share The Bury facilities as well as using football pitches elsewhere in the town.

Buntingford Town FC - over 16 years. Oldest football club in the town who originally had a ground in Norfolk Road but are now based at The Bury.

Buntingford Wanderers FC - for the more senior age group. Uses the football pitches at the Seth Ward Community Centre.

Cricket

The Buntingford Cricket Club is based at the Norfolk Road Playing Fields and have both junior and senior squads. They maintain a good square and some of the outfield forms part of 2 football pitches. They also have nets for practice and storage facilities within the area.

They have use of the Pavilion which has changing and shower facilities as well as the upstairs clubroom which boasts a bar and balcony. They have been very successful in the local leagues and have won numerous trophies.

Bowls

Buntingford Bowls Club is long established and has a strong membership. It has some very experienced county coaches who run free lessons every May for those interested in starting the game.

Current membership is around 100 with nearly 40 ladies. All level of bowls is catered for from the social to the competitive. The club has weekend friendly matches at which a good tea is provided. At the other end of the spectrum, the club and individuals compete in national competitions.

During the winter, there are a number of fixtures with indoor bowls clubs. Carpet Bowls is run on a Thursday evening in the clubhouse.

There is also a very active social life.

Tennis

Buntingford Tennis Club is very active and runs a variety of sessions for all age groups.

During the summer they are based at the Multi-games facility at Norfolk Road Playing Fields which supports three double courts with an all-weather surface.

The club was founded nearly 100 years ago and has had many highs and lows. Currently it has an active membership and is supported by a qualified coach.

Indoor Pursuits

Once again there are a number of clubs and societies offered a wide range of indoor pursuits and include:

Swimming

Ward Freman Swimming Pool is operated by East Herts District Council and is open to the public. It is located next to Freman College in Bowling Green Lane and is extensively used by all the local schools.

The Buntingford Swimming Club is very active and covers all ages and abilities.

Mini Tennis

The Buntingford Tennis Club organises mini tennis which normally meets in a school hall.

Carpet Bowls

Badminton, Table Tennis and other

There are a number of groups who organise these pursuits at various locations throughout the town. Some meet at the Seth Ward Centre whilst others use the school sports halls.
